General Terms and Conditions
The General Terms and Conditions for accommodation in Youth Hostels as well as the house rules apply for a stay in a German Youth Hostel.
Members only
If you wish to stay in a German Youth Hostel, you have to be a member of the German Youth Hostel Association or another national Youth Hostel Association. If you live outside of Germany you can apply for membership in your own country or via Hostelling International (www.hihostels.com under "Hostelling International").
International Guest Card
An international guest who does not hold a membership card can purchase an International Guest Card at the Youth Hostel in place of membership. The guest is required to buy a Welcome Stamp for each overnight stay at a price of € 3.50. When 6 Welcome Stamps have been collected, the Guest Card becomes valid in all Hostels worldwide or entitles the holder to get reduced rates for his stay. Validity is 12 months from the date of issue.
Alternatively, a Guest Card with immediate international validity can be obtained for € 18.00.
Dormitories only?
Guests in a Youth Hostel are normally accommodated in dormitories. If rooms are available, single or twin bed rooms can be booked for an additional fee. Of course families can use every hostel, but it is not always possible to accommodate all family members in one room. An early reservation including a note that you are a family is advisable.
Almost all rooms in Youth Hostels have washing facilities; many rooms now even have ensuite bathrooms. About 13 Hostels in Baden-Württemberg are accessible to wheelchairs so that people with limited mobility can check in for the night here.
Breakfast and bed linen are included in the price - room service is not: usually, you have to change the sheets yourself.
Great value for families*
Parents and single parent families with at least one minor child pay the junior price when staying in a Youth Hostel in Baden-Württemberg. Children under the age of 6 years travelling with a family membership stay free of charge (board and lodging).
Children travelling with a group aged 3 to 5 receive a 50% price discount. Children under the age of 2 years stay free of charge.
Great savings for groups
Groups and School classes require group membership in order to stay in a Youth Hostel. An International Group Guest Card can be obtained in place of membership by groups that are not members of a national association. 5 Welcome Stamps at a price of € 3.50 have to be obtained per night of the stay. The Guest Card becomes valid in all Youth Hostels worldwide or entitles the group to reduced rates for its stay when 20 Welcome Stamps have been collected. Validity is 12 months from date of issue.
Open 24 Hours?
Youth Hostels in large cities operate day and night. Other Hostels have individual opening hours - usually they close at 11 pm. Adult guests can often receive a key by giving a deposit.
Individual times of arrival can sometimes be arranged with the Hostel management. Otherwise, reservations are valid until 6 pm. After that, a reserved room may be given to another guest. If you have not made a reservation you can inquire available beds by phone. Receptions open at 5 pm at the latest.
Not all Youth Hostels are open all the year round. Often, there is a closure for necessary renovations between Christmas and New Year, sometimes even in January or February.
No Pets, please.
Unfortunately pets aren't allowed at Youth Hostels in Baden-Württemberg. We do however accept registered assistance dogs - please stipulate this when booking.
